What we know about Wes Anderson’s upcoming Summer flick. The master of cult classics is back with his next upcoming movie ‘Asteroid City’.
With his latest movie, ‘The French Dispatch’ getting praise for its one-of-a-kind concept, memorable characters, intriguing plot and of course, satisfying visuals, Wes Anderson is set to make a comeback to theatres everywhere with his next film, ‘Asteroid City’. Although Anderson tends to keep his future projects on the low, it was Bill Murray who spilt the title of this upcoming film at the London Film Festival.
For ‘Asteroid City’, Wes Anderson won’t be just directing it, but also writing its script and co-producing it. The plot of the film is an original story that he formulated with director Roman Coppola, who he previously worked with in ‘Isle of Dogs’, ‘Moonrise Kingdom’, and more. Previous collaborators that Anderson has tagged along on this new adventure also include Steven Rales of production house Indian Paintbrush and producer-special effects artist Jeremy Dawson.
This newest movie will – as always – feature a star-studded lineup as its cast includes his on-set regulars including Willem Dafoe, Tilda Swinton, and Jeff Goldblum. Adding to those big names are newcomers in the World of Wes: Margot Robbie, Tom Hanks, and Scarlett Johannson to name a few. Bill Murray was also originally signed up for the movie however had to be re-casted to Steve Carell due to catching COVID prior to filming day.
The project is said to be filmed in Chinchón, Spain where sets of the film are seen to be set up in a desert by the city. Chinchón is a city located 45 km from Madrid and is known as a historic old town with Spanish culture, heritage, and architecture. With that in mind, the crowd was speculating on whether the plot will touch into Spanish culture or perhaps even a wild west type of story with the desert location involved, however, Anderson has said that the movie is set in America in the 1950s where the characters find chaos in an academic competition.
