Saddle Up, People! The Iconic Dior Saddle Bag is Back. The 2000s Saddle Bag just made a comeback and is now bigger than ever.
What goes around, comes around. That’s what’s been happening in the fashion industry and the evidence is everywhere! Many of the 90s trends have made their comebacks this year including dad sneakers and micro sunglasses, also this one nostalgic bag by Dior. After 18 years, Dior finally decided to bring back its legendary saddle bag!
The bag was originally designed in 1999 and made its debut in Dior’s spring/summer 2000 runway which was led by John Galliano. It quickly became the statement bag of the season, appearing on Sex and the City clutched under Carrie Bradshaw’s arm. It even stole the hearts of Beyoncé and Paris Hilton.
At Dior’s fall/winter 2018 show, Maria Grazia Chiuri, Dior’s creative director, surprised everyone with the appearance of fresh and revamped saddle bags. She thought this collection would be a good opportunity to revive the saddle bag’s timeless beauty. Chiuri also considered this icon of the house’s recent history the perfect accessory to deal with this battle that is daily life. She even emphasized how comfortable it is to wear with its long strap that people might forget it’s there!
The modern, new saddle bags came in more than 15 versions including logoed canvas, black calfskin, beaded embellishments, patchwork denim, and florals. Each one of them came with the familiar C and D gold clasps. Though they might look somewhat the same, the new saddle bags are not exact copies of the original ones from the 2000s. The new bags are slightly larger than the originals, most likely to accommodate the large smartphones and other necessities people carry nowadays.Other than that, not much has changed. Also true for the production process of these saddle bags, in Dior’s atelier, teams of leather craftsmen hand-stitch and assemble each bag one by one. One thing for sure, this bag is proven to be timeless, chic, and versatile, and will likely be back again in the future, so why not invest in one (or two) right now!
