Celebrating the tenth anniversary of his namesake collection, Robert Rodriguez introduces a new studio, a new logo, and a new direction for the collection. “It’s a total revamp,” said the designer at his bright new space in New York’s Meatpacking District.
Spring’s lineup completely done with a brand new edge refinement, everything is black and white, the collection however does consist of a dashes of powder blue and cream here and there. With such a minimal color palette, you can’t help but pay close attention to detail. A zip-back, wide-sleeve top in white is layered over a honeycomb net tank and a cream-colored leather pencil skirt, white sheath dress with billowing sleeves and a black sheer insert at the collarbone is sculptural and a pair of deep-pleated trousers in a luxurious-looking Japanese crepe are cropped to just the right length were easy standouts within the collection.
His label has always been clean with a tough edge to it, but what’s really caught our attention and makes the entire collection stand out is how he’s cleverly incorporated a pattern that resembles marble. Though Balenciaga got to marbling first, it’s good to see other designers are not going to let that be a one and done affair. (Text Teuku Ajie)
