Under-the-Radar Talent: LRS Studio. New York based label, LRS, pays a tribute to a lysergic lineup inspired by tripping on acid and ecstasy.
The New York based label LRS is found in confidence to experiment with materials and colors despair. Designed by Raul Solis, who cut his teeth at Proenza Schouler, the label made its New York debut last season. If last season was all about the dreamy hinterlands of sleep, Solis’s clothes this season are firmly a tribute to the waking hours, a lysergic lineup inspired by tripping on acid and ecstasy.
This meant a collection of dresses made with a variety of materials, dynamic patterns and intriguing color combinations. Perhaps surprisingly, the designer set his sights on a notion of practicality. Through his experimentation, the clothing takes on another dimension tactilely as well as visually. The trippy campaign – shot by Sam Rock and debuted below – is an artistic reflection of these ideas, with the photos titled and intensified by awkward, statuesque poses.
As you see, the collection was filled with body conscious pieces, psychedelic prints, striped cutout dresses, layered mesh spandex and latex dresses in inventive cuts— and although these pieces sound cliché, Solis managed to give them a wearable, fresh take. It was a collection best seen in the eve – functional and flamboyant.
