Under-the-Radar Talent: Gavin and Grace. Meet Jakarta based label that combined the influence of eastern culture with the grit of city streets.
Once an idea that was developed a year before its conception has finally become a brand that one may want to don and own as part of an essential statement piece. Found in 2015, Gavin & Grace started off as a vision created by couple Pria Hardie and Anastasia Grace from Jakarta. Both wanted to see diversity, they wanted to see change as translated in the very simple yet meticulously embroidered and crafted simple yet stylish collection. The couple aims to create, construct and develop pieces that are made to last long enough beyond the seasons.
Living off from contrasting backgrounds the couple grew in passion with diversity and the eclectic nature of individuals. Their debut collection features pieces like that of varsity jackets and loose sweaters with contrasting white seams on the collar and the sleeves as accents. The embroidered graphics scream statement, with one featuring an image of a wolf and one with an image of a wave, similar to the famed Japanese woodblock print, The Great Wave by Hokusai.
As we know, this label has picked its moment to combined the influence of eastern culture with the grit of city streets. With a collection of clothes that will appeal to a new generation of men and women discovering a utility aesthetic – as well an established following – fashion will no doubt be waving back.
