Evidently, conservative is the “newest thing” in the fashion industry as of currently. Well, it is for Miucci Prada for her menswear spinoff at least. To have a wading pool framework covered by piles of brown carpet around the edges was something of a synchronized harmony to Prada’s vision of “the new and the classics.” Tapping into her inner identity, the lineup was a reflection of what would be most suitable for her and for the moment in time. And in doing so, she has engulfed a mixture of conservative classics with a whiff of That 70s Show in modern sober color palettes. The work of couture was a radical change in gender roles in fashion, one that Prada targets to empower through both collections; womenswear had a touch of androgynous and vice versa.
They were all plainly simple, really – silhouettes, shapes and prints. Though highly qualified in workmanship in embroidery stitching and textile assortments. Classic for summer wear such as car coats, shrunken kaleidoscopic knitwear and denim jeans all contrasted in fine stitching as the lineups’ gleam of sparkling gold; boxy skirts, topcoats in leather and pleated men-dresses decorated in glimmering beads were otherwise the miscellaneous pieces. Surely very toned down for Miucci Prada, but a classic subtleness for that authentic summer breeze. Moss green trousers in both skinnies and loose-fitted silhouette were one of those 70s spark Miucci wanted to refer back to. When asked about the color scheming, it was a simple “Ah, very simple; blue, brown, beige” and both a recent obsession of Miucci Prada, the fashion Queen of no rules.
Her track record has never failed to disapprove her fashion inspirations, and it has always been a creative dud doing women’s show, as menswear tends to emphasize a more realistic approach to Miucci. Knowing that Prada is reined by a designer who tends to not bow down to any rules, nor empowered by seasonal trends, this round up was a fresh sober contrast to the majority of the fashion house’s collections. Fashion classics will forever be the winner that takes it all. Especially by Miucci Prada. (Text Nadilla Sari Ratman)
