Painting and Weaving Exhibition: Yohji Yamamoto x Yuuka Asakura. Yamamoto steps into Asakura’s world and create masterpiece by collaborating art and fashion.
Great pioneer of the so-called Japanese school, Yohji Yamamoto can be considered the most conceptual and precise amongst the fashion designers who belong to that school. His clothes result from a complex re-working of techniques and fabrics coming from the very old and illustrious Japanese sartorial tradition. Along with his stitches, overlappings, cuts, asymmetry and a certain preference for the black colour, the visionary designer is able to draw together what is new and what is traditional, in a very personal way that is easily recognizable in the sophisticated structure of Yohji Yamamoto Clothes.
Yamamoto never stops defying and challenging the world of fashion, this time he teamed up with Japanese painter, Yuuka Asakura who has collaborate with him since spring/summer 2016 collection, conceiving his first ever art exhibition “Painting & Weaving”. Yamamoto steps into Asakura’s world and create masterpiece by collaborating art and fashion, still with Japanese unique touch. The exhibition will display Yamamoto’s unexhibited pieces alongside Asakura’s, that include pictures, sculptures and installations that explore 2-D and 3-D objects, men and women and other inevitable opposition that often fuel creativity.
This exhibition will be held at famous Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery, from December 2016 to March 2017. Quoting from the release, “Expect to witness collision and fusion, despair and confrontation, coexistence, momentary happenings, switching of places, yearning, and hints toward eternity.” (Text Saskia Chairunnisa)
