As Cara Delevingne took her first step down that Milani runway with the black fox hood and a furry purse of mini Lagerfeld, it was an expected unexpected Fendi surprise, ruled once again by the master Lagerfeld. The show with backdrop of collaged color patches reminiscing Cubist canvas was inspired by Billie Holiday’s song “Violets for Your Furs” and the charming unwritten law of a female lover and her travel with no destinations – just the true beauty of traveling and its romantic notions. Yet the sci-fi drones circling over crowd’s heads were the true proof of an ultimate journey’s end as the past and the future were blended as one Fendi show.

Lagerfeld had labeled the collection “Made in Italy” due to merits it deserved as a superior quality of workmanship, and it did not need a second reminder with the intricate and delicate garments of fitted dresses in profound bourgeois-like shapes and colors. Furs erupted in mid air at these dresses seams; calling them a “fur escape” Lagerfeld punned. What more is there to as when a shoulder pad of a muted coatdress exploded with moss green Mohawk fur? Well there is always the fresh flesh of orchids pinned to a wild belted piece that took “florals” to another level. Militaristic feeling of khaki, camouflage green, navy and black were paired with structured coats, boxy silhouettes and robe coats. Artistic patchworks that resembled the collaged backdrop evoked to assemble a textual attraction and continue the signature’s fur as fabric and embroidery. Nothing was simple: puffer gilets in patent and nylon, crocodile-skin as armlets or collars or belts on silhouetted coats and paint flecks printed on leather. Slices of mesh were the shapeless shifting of the foot to reveal the tops of white thigh-high boots. As a finale, and to match the sci-fi road, clear sky constellations printed on shear dark fur parkas.

Georgia May Jagger, Lindsey Wlxson and Cara Delevingne were only few of the Fendi sweethearts on this luxuriously couture universelle show. Couture in Italy will never reach beyond its aesthetics league if it wasn’t for Lagerfeld and the Fendi’s heart because this was one romantic cross-country journey on a runway.
