Everything You Need to Know About Rihanna’s First Fenty Collection. Here’s a glimpse of Rihanna’s history-making collection.
Everyone should stop whatever they are doing cos Fenty maison is finally here. If you are wondering what is new with Fenty – not the beauty line – then you are definitely missing out with what the fashion industry has in store this year.
What is Fenty?
LVMH partnered with Rihanna to launch Fenty Beauty, a makeup brand, in September 2017. (The name comes from the singer’s full name, Robyn Rihanna Fenty.) After the venture surged to nearly €500 million in sales during its first year in business, the owner of luxury stalwarts such as Louis Vuitton, Dior, Celine, and Givenchy says it has given carte blanche to the Barbadian musician to lead the new label.
The singer has made a historical move and shaking up the fashion sphere altogether, by being the first black woman to lead a luxury fashion house under LVMH.
When is Fenty launching?
Set to launch online on May 29 and at a Paris pop-up on May 24, Rihanna has now blessed us with the first drop of Fenty’s campaign film through a 45-second video.
The short bursts of a video perfectly capture the fashion house’s aesthetics. Stating that she uses herself as the muse, Rihanna celebrates diversity and women in different race and age, wearing pieces that seem like they got out straight out of Rih’s closet. “I feel like we live in a world where people are embracing every bit of who they are,” As she said in an interview with i-D. The video highlights models walking around and posing in different backgrounds (with Rihanna making subtle appearances every few seconds), wearing Fenty’s debut collection of clean-cut, tailored ready-to-wear, footwear, accessories, and eyewear, which consists of denim separates, oversized blazers, all-white outerwear selections, corset dress, and extra cool sunnies.
What does Fenty look like?
The first Fenty drop is officially here. Inspired by Rihanna’s own personal style. A consistently bold, oversize, tailored silhouette appeared to be the backbone of the collection, with corset construction and power shoulders emerging as another leading hallmark. See the series of Japanese denim jackets with cargo pockets and split flare pants, a coral pink blazer with structured feminine curves, and a signature corset blazer dress with exaggerated shoulders. Also fanny packs that doubled as waist-cinching sashes.
Prices, which start at around $200 for a T-shirt and rise to around $1,500 for outerwear, have been the subject of ongoing debate. Rihanna acknowledged that only a small fraction of her tens of millions of fans would be able to afford an $1,100 dress, but ultimately, she said, “luxury couldn’t be something that cost 30 bucks.”
