DEW Magazine #56 The Resonate Issue Summer 2025. This Summer we’re focusing on people who use their platforms not just to entertain, but to speak the truth, challenge oppression, and amplify the voices of the marginalized.
Art has long been a medium of protest. When voices are pushed aside by those in power, art finds a way to seep into the cultural consciousness. Throughout history, through photography, art movements, music, and fashion, artists have used their platforms to speak their truth, fight for causes, and respond to the world around them. Art has also been used as a tool of protest for the genocide happening in Gaza.
While many artists and musicians shy away from speaking out about Palestine and other global atrocities, using one’s platform to educate and raise awareness can have a significant impact. Some artists who have chosen to speak out include Fontaines D.C. and Massive Attack, both using their voices to stand in solidarity and shed light on the ongoing injustices.
Many people underestimate the reach and influence of art, music, and fashion, but as these artists show, creativity can be a tool for political education, empathy, and collective action. Through awareness comes togetherness, and through togetherness, we can continue to educate others about the atrocities occurring in Palestine and stand in solidarity with those fighting for justice.
