Burberry’s personal touch in their prowess for being one of the best fashion houses in the digital realm pertains to comments made by fellow editors’ and friends who are well-acquainted with UK’s longstanding fashion house. It is true – personalisation has never have become the heart of the 158 year-old brand in the past few seasons. Especially for the SS15 show, entitled ‘The Birds and the Bees’ introduced monogrammed ‘Burberry Bee Bag’ which is the most powerful subtlety of indicating who you are.
Foraying all the guests into the venue at Kensington Gardents that reminds us more of a green house, the roof with designs from the season’s unique prints in brighter colours gave hints of what is about to come. Indeed, spring is in the air where the sounds of pre-recorded chirping birds echoes around the tent while show-goers tweet and talk abuzzed in excitement. The show afterall, was fortuitous to be held on a sunny day in London – good weather makes Londoners extremely happy. Burberry, you have unjinx your rainy spells in the city to present a rainbow collection. The collection invited us to all remember – especially being in London – that bright colours are the ultimate weapon to dispell dull grey concrete sidewalks and hundreds of year-olds buildings of London with the key that makes London’s fashion so distinct from the rest – fun, fanfare, fantastic spectacle to the eyes.
The collection is Bailey’s continuity of his AW14 hand-painted prints. While the current season has soft hues of blue, pink, and cream, this one is a spring-summer spin of poppy red, fern yellow, pale sweet pea, dragonfly blue, beetle green and rosehip. Moreoever, his dresses and trenches pushes the word ‘experimental’ to the edge – is that a panel of glossy shell leather with a tulle frill on top of that textured silk dress?
With Bailey’s creative vision, it is. Especially with the innovative and creative vibe London fashion is all about, there is almost nothing not surprising for an established fashion house. There is so much to see in one look; model Suki Waterhouse was almost forgettable with the brilliant hue of red trench, bowed with a crepe tulle – certainly the play of material juxtapositions that draws attention. For the men, the ongoing trend of floppy hats were modified to have smaller brims but is worn in rich colours of violet, blue and green. While the women had bold graphic prints, the men became a tranquilizer among looks to pertain one-colour palette from head to trousers. Toes were covered in colourful sneakers or sandals. Bailey’s wearable vision are strong statements that it will take time to take in of what it is – a walking apparition of rainbows. (Text Elizabeth Raisa)
