50 Shades of Beige. That’s what Andrea Pompilio’s Menswear 2015 should be called. A more somber version of punk in a rebellious rock and roll sort of direction, where Pompilio’s men were strutted down Mohawk-less, this collection was a mature rebellion force. Pompilio imagined a father and a son situated in the one surrounding, living two contrasting lives between “the old and the new”. The combination of the vintage mode and modern anew fashion were elegantly contrasted that awed an inspiring couture spectacle, through the asymmetrical layering and synchronized polar color palette. Pompilio resurfaced those underdogs polite punks back to the spotlight through such a refreshingly modernistic angle.
First of all, those pleated hems were the ultimate favorites, uniting with the shirts under the inevitably fine tailored linen and cotton blended suit jackets and ¾ lengthy jumpers, as if to act as a “punk’s kilt” followed by a nobility outer casing. As mentioned, the asymmetrical cuttings went hand in hand with the carefree tailoring to give that rebellion attitude. But the “earlobey” grommets scattered all over the jumpers and collars gave more of an innovative aesthetic appeal towards the exceptional layering. Other pieces included loosely tailored trousers and shorts in earthy shades; as fancy accessories, newly innovative open toe footwear worn with ribbed socks, cold white boots worn with pastel colored socks and lastly, retro sunglasses and briefcases showed that certain street vibe to make the rebellion have a modern formalwear approach. Vision well exhibited through the use of navy, burgundy and indigo – a blend of youth complexion.
Pompilio was able to envision and bring to life the vision of punk rebellion in such a way that was harmonious and at the same time, peaceful. The contrast of both the “father” and the “son” must have been a personal inspiration, but now it’s a work of art appreciated. Breath taking and harmoniously suited. Want that punk rock yet urban smart look? Pompilio is your man. (Text Nadilla Sari Ratman)
