Ever had a piece of clothing thrown in the washing machine and little did you know, it was being inadvertently destructed leading to a world of disappointment and chaos? Well, for Alexander Wang, the dry-cleaning havoc leads him to a newfound line of wardrobe evolutions. This round of Resort 2015, Wang brings in the personal experience inspiration of caution labels on laundry mishaps, “Sometimes things become completely distorted and bleached out and some of them become my favourite pieces,” he quotes proudly. Aside from his concern of laundry destructions, he was still able to follow on from his fall collection, connecting with the beat of the street, in all its urban setting authenticities, pulsing his way through the bass of EDM festivals.

Output is never conventional with Wang, despite the highly conventional source of inspiration the designs originate from. To mimic the wardrobe evolution of a his laundry all-H-broken-loose, he has expressed unconventional tie-dying either on fine leather with raw borders or on opaque PVC gloss, seen on an inky oversized blue raincoat, paired with a printed double-knit viscose tops morphing the designer’s logo in a bar code and “WET” imprinted terry cloth sweaters. Utilitarianism was emphasized for the street-inspired pieces, such as the resin-backed patchwork utility jackets and dungaree overalls with ribbing trims. Leave it to Wang to nail the streetwise practicality shown on those outlandish suede desert boots in cobalt blue!

A chaos gone right! It only takes so much talent to visually organize such a catastrophic daily occurrence that some of us may experience. The effortless perfection of a nonchalant collection is what Wang does best – even if it may have just simply about dry-cleaning. What a work of art! (Text Nadilla Sari Ratman)
