A Glimpse at Christopher Nolan’s Upcoming Oppenheimer. A quick recap on what we know so far about Nolan’s star-studded blockbuster.
Marking the 12th movie of his extensive career, Christopher Nolan is back in theatres with his latest film, “Oppenheimer.” Starring Cillian Murphy, the movie is based on the book “American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer” by Kai Bird and Martin J Sherwin. The book is a biography of J. Rober Oppenheimer, one of the physicists best known for his contribution to Project Manhattan, aka a project where he worked on creating a nuclear bomb for the United States of America in World War II.
According to the book’s blurb, “American Prometheus sets forth Oppenheimer’s life and times in revealing and unprecedented detail. Exhaustively researched, it is based on thousands of records and letters gathered from archives in America and abroad, on massive FBI files and on close to a hundred interviews with Oppenheimer’s friends, relatives and colleagues.”
Although the movie itself seemed like it was meant to be an action and suspense-packed war movie, the trailers have shown that the movie itself had a more raw and humane tone to it. Perhaps this is thanks to the score of the film that was done by Ludwig Goransson, a frequent collaborator of Nolan. Prior to this, Goransson worked with Nolan for his iconic “The Dark Knight” trilogy, “Inception” and more recently, “Dunkirk.” Besides Goransson, working on the movie is a line up of creatives who’ve worked behind Hollywood blockbusters, including Jennifer Lame of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Manchester by the Sea is part of the movie’s editing team, Ruth De Jong of Twin Peaks who’s doing production design, Ellen Mirojnick of Bridgerton leading costume design and other big players.
Not just behind the scenes, but Nolan’s upcoming movie also features a star-studded lineup in front of the camera. Taking the main role in the movie is Cillian Murphy, the Peaky Blinders actor that has made appearances in previous Nolan films as well. Alongside Murphy, Emily Blunt and Matt Damon will star in roles that are working with Murphy’s Oppenheimer on their operation, while Robert Downey Jr. will play the opposite of the lead. Other actors who will appear in the movie include Rami Malek, Florence Pugh, and Dane DeHaan.
